Welcome, my corner of the internet; who is this bloke, you might be asking?

I’m Robert Beck, amerture naval historian trying to find a productive way of progressing this passion.

I don’t know where this interest originated, as I grew up in probably the most landlocked part of the United Kingdom. I joined the Sea Cadet Corps as a teenager, which gave me an insight into the Royal Navy. I was lucky to visit a couple of Her Majesty's ships, but I could never progress into the service, and my career path headed off on a different course.

This blog will be my attempt to document my interest; however, getting my thoughts and ideas down in writing has never been my strongest skill which is a by product of being dyslexic.

I’m not confident about doing any form of high education, which I hope to overcome someday.

My main study area is signalling used by the Royal Navy from the early 1800s.

They that go down to the sea in ships, and occupy their business in great waters; these men see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep
